Duties: Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Library Operations and Patron Experience, manages projects related to facility operations and the planning, design, and monitoring of capital improvement for the Chicago Public Library, including master planning for long range facilities strategy and development. Consults and serves as liaison to library administration, staff, city departments, elected officials and others to determine scope of services, budgets and specifications for projects. Directs functions and operations for facility operations and projects of all sizes in terms of budget, implementation, and operations; helps to establish and implement policies and procedures related to the sections objectives, including facility security and maintenance. Establishes timelines and implements processes to track and monitor the progress of projects and accomplishment of key objectives. Monitors services provided by City and sister agencies, private developers, architects, engineers, and others ensuring program and provisions meet specifications. Coordinates and administers citywide initiatives, departmental programs, and special projects of a complex and technical nature. Plans, assigns, directs and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Functions as a specialized advisor to the library’s executive team.


Preferred Qualifications: A license to practice Architecture and a Master of Architecture Degree. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management. An understanding of the relationships between Public Library activities and/ or government agencies and external agencies and departments. Experience in library planning and design.


LOCATION: 400 S. State Street- Harold Washington Library Center- Library Operations and Patron Experiences

DAYS OFF: Saturday and Sunday

SHIFT: Monday- Friday 9:00- 5:00

HOURS: 35 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

May be required to work some evenings and weekends


THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE


Qualifications


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher in Library Science or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering or related field, plus 5 years work experience managing facility/capital projects from initial planning stages to construction completion of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.
